Brief note as follows:-
"Recorded on the 4th March 1971 at the 'Crown' Mansfield, from an unnamed member
of the Mansfield Young Teacher Group from Kirkby-in-Ashfield.
Up till about 1964, three of four men or boys in at least one street would go
from house to house on New Years Morn after Midnight. They had blackened faces,
and they recited a rhyme (no acting) for which they were rewarded with a florin
each or some other silver coin."
