*Nottinghamshire Guardian,

The piece is headed "Extract from the Nottinghamshire Guardian,
Thurs. evening, Jan. 16, 1851", and consists of the following:-
"PLOUGH MONDAY - We are pleased to learn that this vulgar and demoralising
festival of the lower grades of our community has, through the exertions
of the police, supported by the magistrates and influential private
individuals, passed over this year in the villages round about us
generally, with fewer outrages on public decency than on almost any
former occasion."
