NEW HOUGHTON - GUYSERS PLAY
Further notes - 1971
The following alternative part for Bellzebub was supplied by Mr. Sam Richards, to Peter T. Millington.
In comes I Bellzebub, In my hand I carry a club, In my hand a dripping pan, Don't you think I'm a jolly old man? If you don't, I do. I've a little money box, That speaks without a tongue, A little bit of money, Will do it no wrong. (Laugh) With a chink, chink, chink, I'll sup my drink, And there;s nowt like ready money.
Several men in the bar of the Stanton Hotel, especially Tom Jones, said that there should be about fourteen parts. These were obviosly mainly supernumeraries. One was Devil Doubt, although as yet, no words have been collected, neither have the names of the other characters.
