The following books were published in 2007 (even though one bears the date 2008).

  • Border-Crossing: Mumming in Cross-Border and Cross-Community Contexts.
Anthony D.Buckley, Críostóir Mac Cárthaigh, Séamas Ó Catháin & Séumus Mac Mathúna (eds.)
    Dundalk: Dundalgan Press, 2008, ISBN 0-85221-147-7 €25 (until 31st March 2008)

This is a readable and colour-illustrated collection of academic articles from the mumming conference held in Derry, Northern Ireland in 2003. It covers mumming customs in Ireland, Britain and further afield.

  • Masks and Mumming in the Nordic Area.
    Terry Gunnell (ed.)
    Uppsala: Swedish Science Press, 2007, ISBN 978-91-85352-70-8, £25 + P&P

This collection of conference papers on mumming comes from a conference held in Turku, Finland in 2002. While it mainly covers mumming customs in Scandinavia, it also makes forays into Scotland, Ireland and Newfoundland. For full details, see the advert on this website.

  • «In Comes I»: Performance, Memory and Landscape.
    Mike Pearson
Exeter, University of Exeter Press, 2007, ISBN (hbk) 968-0-85989-787-7 £50.00, (pbk) 978-0-85989-788-4 £17.99

This is a little bit different from most books on folk drama, because it looks at the subject from the performance studies perspective. It includes excellent background material on the plough play traditions, customs and rural life of North Lincolnshire, England.

  • The Mummers' Play: A Midwinter Ritual as performed in North Curry Somersetshire on Boxing Day.
    David Lawrence
    North Curry: From the Greenwood, 2007, ISBN 978-0-9556718-0-7. £10 + P&P

This booklet gives the script of the North Curry Mummers along with illustrations by David Lawrence and a CD of their performance. Its introduction approaches the plays from a now outmoded mystical viewpoint, but you shouldn't let this put you off.
